jewelry for everyone OBJET d'ART Handmade Jewelry

Bracelet for EveryONE. Why an ornament on the wrist is a unique element of personal jewelry? It has been accompanying civilization for centuries, it is known in practically all cultures. The bracelet has always been important: thanks to it, members of the social group or guild, wealth or preferences were recognized. Wearing bracelets to this day also has a religious meaning or is otherwise associated with beliefs.

It’s Kate here. You can associate me with an instagram, and if not, I will tell you: I am responsible for most of the things that appear under the brand OBJET d’ART. Today I will tell you a little about bracelets. I invite you to read and comment!

Shortly about bracelet

We currently say bracelet, but the origin of the term is from the Greek ‘brachile’ meaning ‘of the arm’, via the Old French ‘bracel’. A bracelet is also a small brace or bracer (an arm-guard used by archers).

Bracelets meaning

A bracelet today is above all a decoration. However, it still remained a carrier of information and often has a message. I grouped this issue according to my own observations. I will not mention other people’s texts here, I am willing to refer you to wikipedia and other studies. If you think I have committed some serious negligence, I will consider your arguments.

Types of bracelets

Simple red bracelet

A common ornament is simple red bracelet on the wrist, tied with a single thread of a mouline or a thong. Its task is to drive away evil powers, but it is also used by the followers of Kabbalah. Seen on the wrists, children are supposed to ward off bad powers and counteract charms.

Simple silicon strap

Bracelet in the form of simple silicon strap it can be a symbol of fighting disease, as in the case of Lance Armstrong, who in 1996 popularized the fashion on the yellow bar. Currently, colors are identified with the type of initiative supported. Bracelets are also a carrier of information through the possibility of their stamping or printing. They can also be an advertising gadget, a symbol of memory (about an event or a person) or even an admission ticket to a closed party.

Friendship bracelets

Friendship bracelets are considered a type of cheap jewelry, although in recent years the trend has changed. However, for a moment. Friendship bracelets are made of mulina. The decorations come from Central America. In the 70s, taken over by the hippie movement, they were popularized around the world.

For years, they have been popular among young people of both sexes and are given as a sign of friendship, as the name suggests. They are also worn by the heirs of the hippie movement, fans of the Rainbow Family movement and are popular among surfers.

As women’s jewelry, they are popular in boho stylizations. Friendship bracelets, with precisely designed colors and motifs, are often part of the composition of layered bracelets. Such combinations can also be found in exclusive and expensive fashion stylizations.

Bangles come from India, where they are called kangan. Women wear a few or a dozen of them at the same time, which causes a characteristic, slightly clattering sound around them. Bracelets in the form of hoops can be made of cheap materials, but also from expensive metals and studded with jewels.

Chain bracelets

Chain bracelets, worn as an independent element or decorated with accessories or charms. They were worn in ancient Egypt and enjoyed popularity among all social groups. In ancient times, the followers of the deity Ball founded chains of prostitutes to be able to identify them. Married women wore bells on their chains, which informed everyone when they were coming.

Currently, chain bracelets are worn with rods that have their symbolism. The chain worn on the ankle of the leg by a woman in a relationship is a symbol of the so-called Hotwife – a woman accepting intimate relationships with other men, all with the consent of the partner she loves. In this case, charms are also used, which have the appropriate meaning.

Materials, what bracelets are made of

BOHO Bead Bracelet Rainbow Linen Macrame Braided Macrame Minimalist Accessories colorful rainbow handmade jewelry OBJET d'ART

Bracelets are made of various materials. From classic, from various types of metals, through the skin, strings and threads, glass, plastic, fabrics or paper. They are decorated with elements made of these materials as well as precious stones, jewels, pearls, corals and hangers made of plastic, wood, glass, metal, polymer masses, ceramics and resin.

The chosen material imposes somehow the method of making the bracelet. For example, metal bracelets can be hand-formed by skilled blacksmiths or jewelers, but they can also be the result of mass casting at the factory.

Wooden bracelets can be made by machine or created thanks to precision manual processing. Woven bracelets with simple weaves can be braided on a massive scale by the machine. However, complicated weaves made only from threads or with additions of beads, stones or other spacers is a precise work done by hand.

Does age and gender matter, when choosing a bracelet?

Yes, they have. A bracelet is an addition that largely determines the person wearing it. Another bracelet will be created by a child and another adult, another woman and another man. It’s not just about the size of the bracelet. The weight of the decorations and the material from which the bracelet was made is also significant.

A bracelet for everyone is a classic element, its choice is a very individual matter. We can be guided by aesthetics, stylistics or the meaning of future decorations. Remember, however, that our choice will have a meaning and influence how we will be perceived by the people around us. If we’re going to a club for motorcyclists, we can give up a few hours of black silicone band worn for some time on the wrist.

Wearing a chain above the ankle on a barbecue afternoon among friends may be understood and will result in embarrassing situations. So it’s worth knowing!

As you probably noticed, I tried not to go into details too much and not to unduly develop particular issues. I focused on the general presentation of the topic of the bracelet and the collection of information that I have from various sources. Sometimes I am not even able to point them out. Some of them I have deliberately omitted, because in my view they are more digressions in the context of the subject being discussed.

For good bye

I encourage you, however, to googling and exploring the subject. Conscious selection and use of personal jewelry items is important!
I encourage you to comment. If you have any questions, please write them below. I will try to answer them. If you think it will be useful to someone, share it on Facebook or another website. You can also send it by email or in a message. Popularizing knowledge brings benefits to everyone.

Thank you for reading my post.

Eco-friendly repairing jewelry is trendy

Eco-friendly repairing jewelry is trendy - OBJET d'ART Handmade Jewelry

Eco-friendly repairing jewelry is trendy. Indeed, it is! This is no news that we live in the pursuit of money, in the world of consumers who constantly want more. We are being flooded by short series of mass-produced things in well-known chains. So I have a proposition – let’s focus on the products! Real, reliable – created by small producers and craftsmen. And let’s fix what is worth it and can be repaired – clothes, shoes, furniture, as well as jewelry!

It’s Kate here. You can associate me with an instagram, and if not, I will tell you: I am responsible for most of the things that appear under the brand OBJET d’ART. Today I come with a theme that may seem a bit unfashionable. It’s about repairing jewelry, which in my opinion is trendy and eco-friendly. I invite you to read!

Why is it worth repairing jewelry?

That’s why I willingly accept jewelry for repair. Usually, when we go somewhere, like last weekend, where we were at 22. Exhibition of Folk Artists and Artistic Crafts of the Polish-Czech Borderland, I have a set of tools and some substitute elements that allow me to carry out basic repairs – making a new fastener, replacing damaged eyelets, weaving out a worn element or stitching something. My Przemyslaw is surprised, but it makes me very happy when I see a satisfied customer leaving with a repaired little thing.

It is worth remembering that in today’s pursuit of the ecological style of being and living, repairing things is simply fashionable and is part of this trend. From the trip to Prudnik I came back with a full can of various jewelry: rings, broken brooches, broken chains, damaged bracelets and necklaces, and a broken eagle pendant carved in a malachite. The eagle is already glued together and polished with files – it managed to glue it nicely and despite the lack of a fragment of the beak, it still looks beautiful 🙂 All the rest are in the study, and then return to the owner, who brought me this can.

How to repair the jewelry?

Sometimes it turns out that you are able to repair your jewelry yourself. If you miss some elements, you can try to buy them in a stationary or haberdashery or at craft trades, and if you have clever fingers, you will be able to handle it yourself. However, if you do not have the patience, you can take your jewelry to your purse when you are going to the fair in the near future. Ask a craftsman who makes jewelry in a similar style, it will probably fix your piece for a small fee and you will be very satisfied. Sometimes you can fix your jewelry yourself. Other arguments speaking for repairing jewelry

There are quite a lot of them, but I will mention a few obvious ones.

  • the originality of jewelry – often older jewelry is beautiful and unique. It is often what is the icing on the cake and perfectly completes our creation.
  • it is a good gift for a person who has a hard time to give something (eg our moms, aunts or grandmothers often have a lot on every occasion when we look for a gift for them.) We usually have a bigger problem finding something original and useful, which will give pleasure – maybe it is worth to find the damaged brooch or pendant in the casket and give it back for repair, especially if we know a craftsman who knows the case)
  • damaged jewelry can be turned into a different decoration, so instead of another necklace, we can have a new brooch.

If you know another important reason for eco-friendly repairing jewelry, please add this comment in the commentary, it will definitely be important 🙂

When should I repair my jewelry?

Sometimes it is not worth repairing jewelry. You have to rationally assess or rely on the opinion of an expert (craftsman) whether the given jewelry can be repaired.

It may happen that the craftsman will not want to repair the jewelry. Do not fight with him, you can not be his domain. You have two options – or you will look for another craftsman who will make repairs, or accept that the jewelry is irreparable.

Listen to the craftsman – if the pendant can not be repaired or repaired, it will not look very good, the specialist can offer you to make bracelets or brooches out of it. Perhaps this item will be as beautiful as the original pendant, and you will be happy because you will still be able to wear it, despite the changes.

When the jewelry is very damaged…

In extreme situations, when your jewelry is really badly damaged or broken, you can replace it as scrap or have it strip to the first part and re-assemble it in a similar or different form. For example, now I have 3 bracelets to make: one completely torn from the sunstones, which is a bit too little, the other to exchange the dilated string of amethysts and the third of Turquoise stones, which is badly made and pulled for tiny hairs on the wrist.

Eco-friendly repairing jewelry is trendy. I’m going to do a thorough lifting of the metal cans, I’m proud of the effects. I am going back to work and I wish you a pleasant afternoon!
